Activating the Canvas
Saturday Workshop with Cappie Geis
Get Started & Release Your Inner Artist
This is where the excitement happens. You will learn to take your art into new, astonishing directions by cultivating your ability to experiment.
-
In This Workshop, You'll Learn:
Let’s explore how to “activate the canvas” together! Whether you are an abstract or representational artist, you can discover new ways to get started with a new painting.
The blank canvas is actually Cappie's favorite part of creating a new painting and there are so many fun ways to “activate” a canvas.
No rules. No "mistakes." You simply can’t go wrong! Students will be using a variety of tools and paints to cover a new canvas.
Activating the canvas is all about feeling rather than thinking. The last hour will be dedicated to painting. Participants can start a new piece or continue to explore activation.
Join Cappie and learn to be spontaneous, bold, and fearless in your art making.
Students will walk away with a handful of activated canvases that they can take to further develop. -

About the Instructor
Cappie Geis
I am inspired by life. I paint with acrylics and mixed media. My art may begin with just “putting paint on the canvas” or an inspiration from a trip or a walk around my neighborhood or a class that has inspired me to try something new.
Animals, figures and landscapes are some of my favorite subjects. I also love the abstract techniques and will always start a new piece with an interesting background or just continue with a completely abstract painting. I may add some mixed media and will sometimes include vintage sheet music or tissue or napkins I have saved from an event or bought because of the graphics.
Teaching art to all age groups brings joy to all and I love introducing art to those who may have never picked up a paintbrush or those who want to try something new or just need someone to look at what they are working on and for me to ask ... “what if."
What Our Students Are Saying
