Learn the basics of drawing from materials and shading, to movement and proportion—all that you need to dynamically capture the world around you.

In This Class, You'll Learn:
Develop your drawing skills through guided lessons and personalized support in a creative, encouraging environment.Learn fundamental techniques such asobservation, proportion, shading, and texture to bring depth and realism to your artwork.
In this class, you will learn:
• how to observe and draw accurately
• to create depth and dimension through value and contrast
• how to breakdown complex subjects into basic shapes
• shading and blending techniques
• to add detail and texture to bring your drawings to life
By the end of the course, students will walk away with a finished drawing and gain the tools needed to continue growing as artists. -
Supply List for Students to Bring:
This is a studio class and students will be using their supplies on the first week.
- drawing paper (preferably large)
- graphite pencils in a variety of H and B
- vine charcoal
- erasers (kneaded and white vinyl)
- tracing tissue
- blenders / stumps

About the Instructor
Bret Berndes
Bret Berndes is a representational artist born and raised in San Diego, where he feels a deep connection to the landscape and culture. Bret began creating art as a child and later pursued a formal education in fine art and animation. This training, combined with years of dedicated practice, has equipped him with a versatile skill set and a unique approach. With over seven years of experience teaching art, Bret has guided and inspired numerous students while continuing to develop his own artistic voice.
Bret's love for nature is evident in his plein air work, capturing the essence of the outdoors with a keen eye for detail and a deep admiration for the natural world. He has also developed a strong appreciation for depicting the human form, through extensive study and guidance from exceptional instructors. Throughout his career, he has explored various mediums and techniques which reflects his commitment to artistic exploration and his love for the craft.
