Saturday Workshop with Laura Syren

  • In This Workshop, You'll Learn:

    This workshop focuses on developing basic design principles while encouraging personal expression through the accessible medium of paper collage.

    We will learn creating basic shapes, applying bold colors,  exploring Matisse's cut-out techniques and composing dynamic collages with simple forms.

    Students will walk away with their own Matisse-inspired artwork, gained knowledge of collage techniques, and an understanding of color relationships in abstract art.

  • Supplies for Students to Bring:

    • 10x10 wood panel or canvas to work on (you can bring more than one if you wish) 
    • scissors
    • your acrylic paints and brushes (be sure to have Reds, Blues, Yellows, Black and White)
    • Matte Gel Medium
    • Plain white papers to paint on (Michael's has Mixed Media and Sketching paper pads that cost about $10-$14 for a 9x12 size)
    • You can also bring butcher paper, calligraphy paper, or any art paper
    • Additional paper will be supplied by the instructor for students to use in addition to the above
    • quality paper towels or Blue Shop Towels

    • Saturday, August 2nd from 10:30am-1:30pm
    • Cost $115 (plus a $10 materials fee that's payable directly to the instructor)
    • Max 12 students
    • Level: 2 (intermediate)
    • Age level: adult (18 & up)

Laura Syren

Laura is a versatile artist who has dedicated many years to working with acrylic paints and painted paper. Deeply inspired by Matisse, she creates bold and simple collage art that captures the essence of his influential style. Her artistic journey spans various art forms, resulting in a unique breadth of experience that enriches her teaching approach. Laura's passion for Matisse's techniques and vibrant color relationships shines through in both her personal work and classroom instruction.
